The Quiet Place

Be still, and know that I am God.

Psalm 46:10

He leadeth me beside the still waters.

Psalm 23:2

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Matthew 11:28

Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you.

John 14:27

In quietness and in confidence shall be your strength.

Isaiah 30:15

You are held. You are loved. You are not alone.

A word for today

There is no hurry. Stay as long as you like.

Take a few minutes

You don’t need to do anything or say anything. Simply be here, and let the words and the water settle you.

1

Settle

Find a comfortable place to sit. Let your shoulders drop and your hands rest. Put your phone on silent if you can.

2

Breathe

Follow the slow breathing circle below. In through your nose as it grows, and gently out as it softens.

3

Rest in God

Let the words come and go. If your mind wanders, that’s fine. Gently return to the stillness, knowing you are loved.

Breathe

Slowly in, and slowly out. Let the circle set the pace.

Breathe slowly in… and slowly out.

Questions to sit with

There is no need to answer these out loud, or even at all. Let one find you, and rest with it.

What is weighing on you at the moment?

What are you thankful for today?

Where have you noticed God’s presence this week?

Who would you like to hold in prayer?

A prayer for stillness

God of peace,
in the quiet of this moment
help me to rest in you.
Let go of what I cannot carry,
hold what I cannot understand,
and fill me with your calm.

Amen.

When you’re ready

Carry the quiet with you into your day. If you’d like more, there is prayer and meditation to listen to, and a welcome waiting at Northgate on Sundays.
